With the tournament nearing its opening ceremony, things have started happening fast in the SLPL. With the squads for the 7 teams drafted, the appointments for the job of head coach of each team has also been finalized except for the Kandurata team who are yet to finalize who their coach is to be.
These appointments were brought to light according to an interview given by Somerset Entertainment Ventures Ltd chairman CEO Sandeep Bhammer to PakPassion.net website today.
Accordingly, Waqar Younis will be coaching the Ruhuna team while Tom Moody, the coach of the Sri Lankan World Cup 2007 runners up team will coach the Uthura team. 2011 World Cup runners up Sri Lanka team Coach Trevor Bayliss is set to coach the Wayamba team while Shane Duff, the head coach of Sydney Thunder in the Australian Big Bash Leage is set to take charge of the Nagenahira team.
Former Sri Lankan Captain and current Chief Selector for the Sri Lanka Team, Duleep Mendis will take control of the Basnahira team while Naveed Nawaz who has been coaching many teams in the domestic arena in Sri Lanka has been appointed coach for the Uva team.
While the six teams have their coach appointed, Kandurata team remains the only team without a coach as yet. With only a month to go for the tournament to begin, the appointment of the captains are next on the list of things to do for the Sri Lanka Premier League organizing committee.
